Will This Be Your First Time to Belize? If so, read on....

When I first moved down to Belize almost a decade ago most of my friends and family had never even heard of it. Most didn't know where it was on a globe! Even I didn't know much about it but my wife researched it and thought it would be a good place to call home.

However, in the past 5-10 years Belize has been making the news more and more. The travel magazines are featuring us more and we have been a prominent part of many TV shows including several HGTV House Hunters Internationals show. I was the realtor in the last show they filmed here so I guess I got my 22 minutes of fame.

Since Belize is in the news more, people are researching it more. For many of my clients the internet has been their sole research tool. They spend their lunch hours or weekend looking at various websites and real estate listings trying to see what they can get and for what cost. I feel for them because unless you've set foot here its really hard to compare various properties.

Even though Belize is a small country and Ambergris Caye is a small island there are huge difference in the vibe and feel of a place even within just a few blocks. Many people contact me and tell me they are looking for real estate "In Belize". Since they have never been to the country they are looking at hundreds of listings from Corozal, Cayo, Placencia and Punta Gorda on the mainland to Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye in the islands.

The various areas of the country couldn't be more different. If you haven't been to Belize before and you think you'd like to explore various parts before buying I suggest the following.

Spend 1 day in Corozal, a day or 2 in Cayo and a day or 2 in Placencia. These areas of the mainland seem to attract those looking to retire on a budget. You can get some good deals in these areas but its not what most of my clients are looking for. The vast majority of second home and retirment home buyers are buying on Ambergris Caye. Spend one day here on the island and you'll see why.

Now, we can go a step further. Ambergris Caye may be a small island but it has several areas each with their own unique vibe and feel. Do you want to be right in San Pedro Town? or do you prefer the south end of the island? Some say the north end is where its at while some of the really good deals for future building is on the west side of Ambergris Caye and in the Costa del Sol area.

Do you want to live around other expats or would you rather go local? House or condo?

There are many things to consider when looking at property in Belize. If you've never been here bfore then please email me and request the "Buyers Questionnaire" form that I have created. It's detailed questionnaire that will help me to narrow down just what type of real estate you are looking for and it will help you think of things you may never have thought of before.

Thanks and I'm looking forward to seeing you soon and to showing you around the "Jewel of Belize" that is Ambergris Caye.
